CoastNet provides the Secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Coastal and Marine Issues, This group meets three times a year and has focused on issues like Social Justice, the Marine Bill, Erosion and Compensation or Rural Deprivation in coastal areas. You can register for these meetings online.

APPG Annual General Meeting - January 2009

The AGM of the All Party Parliamentary Group Coastal and Marine was held in Westminster on 22nd January 2009.

The meeting opened with a speech by Huw Irranca-Davies MP, the Minister responsible for the Marine and Coastal Access Bill, for ICZM, and for flood and erosion risk management.

The meeting reviewed the activities of 2008, and debated priorities for 2009. These include consideration of Coastal Access provision under the UK's Marine and Coastal Access Bill, completing the Inquiry into Deprivation and disadvantage in rural coastal areas in the UK, and further exploration of policy options for coastal communities at risk.

Members had the opportunity during the reception to view CoastNet's Holding Back the Tide Exhibition, and to hear of CoastNet supported film-making by young people from Jaywick in Essex.
