Manuela has an MSc in Integrated Coastal Zone Management as well as an MSc in Environmental Education her BSc was in Marine Sciences. Since then she has specialised in communications for sustainable development working for public and private bodies throughout Europe.
For over ten years she has designed, coordinated and evaluated Local Agenda 21 programmes, sustainable businesses and environmental education projects. This work has led to a number of studies, publications and guides (Ie: Implementing Local Agenda 21 in Coastal Zones, Public participation in environmental decision making in Andalucia, or The Step to Step Guide to Innovation for Agribusinesses in South West Europe) for local and regional governments as well as small businesses.
Manuela also works in International Development projects (Sustainable Economic Development in Bosnia-Herzegovina, ICZM in North Africa and Middle East). She has also led many capacity building courses and events in environmental education and participation, environmental and quality management systems, for coastal managers, university students and environmental professionals and is a regular lecturer for two master degrees in International Development and ICZM.
She is currently leading the Communications Workpackage for the Interreg funded Innovative Management for Europe’s Coastal Resource – IMCORE project as well as coordinating all CoastNet communications. She has been responsible for the strategic planning and development of the CoastNet website and online tools (from project/event management to dissemination and interaction with members through social media), aspects of the CoastWeb site , the Coastal Wiki categorisation (EU Encora project) and an integrated knowledge system - ontology for ICZM.
