LINKS TO ORGANISATIONS IN THE UK

COASTNET

CoastNet is a not-for profit network that brings together thousands of coastal and marine professionals, institutions and community members from the UK and worldwide who care about the diverse aspects of coastal living and management.

UK COASTAL PARTNERSHIPS

Under the Coastal Partnership section (Networks) you can find the links to local or regional Coastal Partnerships in the UK. Most Coastal Partnerships carry out activities to raise awareness on Coastal and Marine issues at a local or regional level.

MARINE CONSERVATION SOCIETY

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is the UK charity dedicated to caring for our seas, shores and wildlife. MCS campaigns for clean seas and beaches, sustainable fisheries, and protection for all marine life.

NATIONAL MARINE AQUARIUM

The National Marine Aquarium has a team of scientists dedicated to carrying out scientific programmes and communicating marine science to the wider world. The Aquarium is also a member of the internationally renowned Plymouth Marine Sciences Partnership – a group of respected and influential organisations carrying out a wide range of research into the understanding of marine systems.

THE NATIONAL TRUST

 

The National Trust is a charity and is completely independent of Government. The National Trust protects and opens to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills. They also look after forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, downs, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves, villages - for ever, for everyone.

 

THE WILDLIFE TRUSTS

There are 47 local Wildlife Trusts across the whole of the UK, the Isle of Man and Alderney.  The Wildlife Trusts works for an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.

With 750,000 members they are the largest UK voluntary organisation dedicated to conserving the full range of the UK’s habitats and species, whether they be in the countryside, in cities or at sea.

 

LINKS TO ORGANISATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES

SEA GRANT EDUCATORS NETWORK

Sea Grant seeks to educate future environmental professionals and leaders and to enhance marine and aquatic science literacy among the general public of the United States.

The Sea Grant Educators Network operates both locally and as a national force, providing highly respected marine and aquatic science education nationwide and partnering (links to partnerships page) with other national education efforts. The common goal of all Sea Grant programs is to provide educators with insights into contemporary marine and aquatic science issues and research, and to also provide strategies to bring this information to their students.

The Sea Grant network offers a variety of programs and resources in marine and aquatic sciences for K-12 students and teachers, undergraduate and graduate students and the general public. These include publications, workshops, conferences, summer internships, informal education for the general public, radio programs, websites, videos and other electronic media on topics ranging from coastal ecosystems to marine biotechnology. The Sea Grant Educators Network offers a variety of resources for students and teachers.

LINKS TO ORGANISATIONS IN AUSTRALIA

MARINE EDUCATION SOCIETY OF AUSTRALASIA

The National Marine Discovery Centre Network which involves 9 Centres across Australia from New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia and ourselves from South Australia. The network has had an annual workshop for the past 3 years enabling resource sharing, curriculum development and strategic planning critical for each centre.

They have developed the Marine Centre website: www.marinediscoverycentre.com.au with almost 2,000 hits per day. The site includes quizzes, games, a Virtual Tour, curriculum packs for sale and more!

MARINE COASTAL COMMUNITY NETWORK (MCCN)

Marine Coastal Community Network (MCCN) help build community, industry and government support for marine and coastal biodiversity, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. MCCN is a not for profit network with a national focus.

REEF EDUCATION NETWORK

The University of Queensland set up the Reef Education Network to promote education about reefs
